Countryside Alliance - What do we do for you?

Why join. The Countryside Alliance is the organisation for countryside people and for those with an interest in protecting our rural way if life. Through campaigning, lobbying, publicity and education, the Alliance influences legislation and public policy that impacts on the countryside, rural people and their activities.

• To promote and protect shooting the Alliance is operating on two levels – public and political.
• If you believe that what is shot must be eaten, the Alliance is the single most important shooting organisation because of our Game-to-Eat campaign – which has shown a 58% increase in game sales since its inception in 2003. Our public opinion research showed that the consumption of game is the single most popular reason for public support of shooting.
• We have co-funded the most significant independent research on the value of UK Shooting in the last 20 years. We found that shooting supports 70,000 jobs and is worth £1.6 billion to the economy.
• The first annual National Shooting Week took place in May, with over 200 events taking place over the country. Initiated by the Countryside Alliance, this pioneering event to introduce more people to shooting has been organised by the Alliance team on behalf of the British Sporting Council.
• Valuable projects to establish the conservation benefits of pheasant shooting and to protect woodcock shooting against calls for a ban have been commissioned by the Alliance.
• The Alliance works with other organisations to promote the new Game Shoot Standards Assurance Scheme.
• We have successfully campaigned for a change in the current game laws, enabling year round sale of game and the removal of the outdated game licence.
• The Alliance is a key stakeholder on Defra’s ongoing avian influenza steering group.
• We also offer as part of your membership package the best insurance in the market place, covering you not just for shooting but for any country sport that is recognised by the Countryside Alliance.

It is vital that we have a bigger voice and the only way can do this is by having an increasing membership. Greater membership = a stronger voice = more influence.
